Thank you for taking the time to visit my webpage.
I'm Jim Lyons, your State Representative in the 18th Essex District. My wife, Bernadette, and I own a home in Andover, where we live with our two sons. For three decades, we have worked in our family-owned retail business, Dandi-Lyons, located right in this area.
We all share the same commitment to building a better tomorrow for our children. I believe we can build this future in Massachusetts by encouraging education, hard work, job creation, and small business.
After years of state overspending, political patronage, poor management, ugly scandals, and burdensome tax hikes, I am pleased to report that we have turned the corner on those reckless habits of one-party state government. With support from me and other Republican legislators, Governor Charlie Baker and his Administration are implementing reforms and good management practices that we in the Merrimack Valley have long advocated. Through these statewide reforms, we are working to keep a lid on taxes, improve educational opportunities, and increase Local Aid.
We understand the importance of those things that matter most in our lives: family, friends, neighborhood, community. That’s why I have made Local Aid my top priority. By redirecting precious tax resources away from the overblown Beacon Hill bureaucracy, we can better fund essential services in North Andover and other communities: police, fire, public safety, first responders, public works, and education. At the same time, we will protect homeowners and restrain property taxes.
Because the entrenched single-party power brokers monopolized Beacon Hill for too many years, there is no quick-and- easy fix to all the state's problems. Reform will demand hard work and vigilance for a long time to come. The good news is: We have begun to change the political culture. I pledge to continue to fight for the honest and efficient government that the taxpayers and working families of Andover, Boxford, North Andover, and Tewksbury deserve. If you have any questions or comments, please don’t hesitate to contact me directly. Your input only strengthens my resolve to be your voice for change on Beacon Hill.
Best wishes for a happy and safe summer,
